Nordic conference on Parental Leave, Care Policies & Gender Equalities
Radisson SAS Hotel Saga, Reykjavik, October 22, 2009
The Centre for Gender Equality and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Social Security will be hosting a Nordic conference on Parental leave, Care Policies and Gender Equalities. The conference will be held on October 22 in Reykjavik, at the Radisson SAS Hotel Saga.
Many countries have shown interest in the development of Nordic care policies. Nordic welfare systems are known for ensuring social security for all, with special emphasis on families with children. Although the Nordic countries have much in common, individual nations have chosen different ways to support parents.
Results from a research project into parental leave in the Nordic countries will be presented at the conference. The research looks at how parental leave is used in the Nordic countries and how it affects health, the relationship between parents and children and the status of men and women in the labor market. The research project is headed by Dr. Ingólfur V. Gíslason and Dr. Guðný Björk Eydal.
The conference will be held in the English language.
